Toyota Prius crosses the 3 Million units sales milestone

The world’s most selling auto company, Toyota Motor Corporation has recently announced that its Prius Hybrid car has crossed the benchmark of 3 million units in the worldwide collective sales in June, 2013.
Toyota had first launched the Prius Gasoline Electric Hybrid vehicle back in the year 1997. Prius was then the world’s first mass produced hybrid passenger vehicle. Toyota brought in Prius’ second generation model in the year 2003, and the third generation model followed in 2009.

The Japanese car major has been successful in reducing the hybrid car’s price by two-thirds over the introduction of more efficient new generation models, while the Prius has gained much in its fuel economy from the 28 km per liter in its first generation model to 38 km per liter in its third generation model. Moreover, Toyota has also applied for 1,261 patents for the third-generation model that has achieved tremendous progress of the Prius. With its name derived from a Latin word that literally means “to go before”, the Prius has gone forward both in terms of popularity and performance in leaps and bounds.
The Toyota Prius is a hybrid vehicle that has received a lot of milestones for its maker and has been acclaimed all over the globe. Toyota has also introduced the third generation Prius in the Indian car market in the year 2010.

Toyota Motor has become a pioneer of green cars and innovative technology ever since the arrival of the Prius hybrid. Toyota has been increasingly focusing on the futuristic technology to produce even better and more efficient hybrid cars. Toyota is also constantly endeavoring to spread the awareness about the eco-friendliness and efficiency of the hybrid cars, as it produces more and more new hybrid models. The Japanese car maker is also concentrating on boosting the development and production of the core components of the hybrids like batteries, engines, inverters, and electronic control units to augment the production of hybrid vehicles.

In the previous year, the hybrid vehicles had accounted for 14 percent of Toyota’s total global car sales and 40 percent of its total domestic sales in Japan. Presently, Toyota Motors sells 19 hybrid car models and one plug-in hybrid model in more than 80 countries across the world.

Toyota is betting big on the hybrid technology, as the company contemplates to launch a range of 18 new hybrid models in the global car markets by the end of the year 2015. The Japanese car major contemplates to expand massively in new countries of the world along with the expansion of its entire product portfolio, where hybrids will play an important role. Toyota’s expansion plans are focused on promoting the hybrid vehicles to the general car consumers all over the world in a bid to spread the consciousness to preserve the eco-system.

Toyota is working full swing on the development of the Hybrid as well as Fuel Cell  technologies to offer great performing green cars to the world and bring about a revolution in the future of the commutation system.
