Maruti Ertiga the new Rival for the Toyota?

Toyotas Innova has been the king of the ring for India so far because it had no such big threats to it but the now the arrival of the new Maruti Suzuki Ertiga has shaken things up quite a lot. Ertiga is now the top selling MPV of the market and has retained its position since then. The Toyota Kirloskar motors seeing the competition has taken steps against it and planning to launch a mini MUV to take on the Ertiga. But presently the Japanese manufacturer is keeping quiet and just saying that it might take the place for this segment in future.

Toyota-Innova

The Ertiga is now the smallest MPV in the Indian market with length of just 4.2metres which is shorter than that of Toyota Innova and Mahindra Xylo. But still Maruti Suzuki has been able to squeeze in 5seats in the compact MUV and its still was able to fit luggage space in the car. This MPV is spacious enough to carry whole family and slim enough to fit in any parking space. To9yota has lined up lot of its new products for future amongst which there are many which are also targeted to low cost platform targeting emerging markets. Toyota is planning to launch 8new products from its Etios platform. Toyota also does not have plans to build a crossover on the Liva platform in the coming years. So with all the ideas we cannot throw away the fact that the demands of MPV are quite a demand in India and if anyone provides the people with low cost MPVs and enough features in it will surely be a hit.

Diesel powered engine dominates the MPV segment and Toyota does not have any1.4 Liter D-4D turbo diesel powered engine for its products. This also not the first time that we have heard that Toyota is planning to launch a MPV based on the Etios platform right from those days when Etios was launched but previously the MPV market was not so much in demand but when the market for the MPV is in Toyota should definitely think of bringing out something from their stable to compete with this recently launched MPVs .

Maruti-Ertiga-1

The only MPV that Toyota has with them is the Innova which is great looks to it with all the comfortable features in the car. The front of the Innova has been given a low angular shape with stylish looking headlamps and they front grille enhances the classy look of the car with added Toyota badge at the front. The side view windows greats a new design which maintains the premium looks of the MPV. The rear tail lamps also get a new treatment to it and a chrome band which also enhances the look of the MPV. The interior of the Innova is up market with nice and comfortable seats and a good leg and head room space inside it. Innova is powered by a 2.0L, 1998cc, 1TR-FE, Gasoline, 4 Inline Cylinder petrol engine with EFI (Electronic Fuel Injection that generates 132 PS of maximum power and 181 Nm of maximum torque.

Let’s only hope that Innova plans something quick to beat its rivals who are taking the market with storm with their products.

Toyota Etios Liva versus Chevrolet Beat

Today we compare the Chevrolet Beat with Toyota’s only hatchback, the Etios Liva. Both the cars are comparatively new in the Indian market and have been getting good response from the small car buyers. Coming from the portfolios of high profile players like Toyota and Chevrolet, both the cars are expected to provide great quality in both ride and built. Both Toyota and Chevrolet have had similar journeys in India and are now relatively stable in the market.

 Toyota-Etios-Liva6

On the first look, both cars seem to have been made to cater to different kind of audiences. The Liva is made on a bigger chassis with a wide body and a long wheel base. The Beat on the other hand is the tall boy kind, with a shorter wheel base but greater ride height. Speaking about design, The Liva is the Gentlemen’s car, with is straight lines, plain design and colour schemes. It looks elegant and yet has a sporty feel to it with it rear and side profile. The sportiness of the Liva can also be seen in the Dirt prototypes used by racers in dirt conditions. It is a mature and elegant car with subtle style.

 chevrolet-beat

The Beat on the other hand is for the young boy. It has bold curves; sharp lining and the height give it a very sporty and adventurous look. The Beat looks more refreshing than the Liva but making a choice clearly depends on the consumer. On the Inside, the Beat is small as compared to the Liva. The Liva is more comfortable and spacious. It has good cushioned seats and the trademark good finish of Toyota. The Beat on the other hand continues the sporty influence on the inside and looks an altogether different car with its finishing and colour tone inspired by racing. On the Downside though, the Beat is not as comfortable for 5 people as the Liva, with its wider body.

Toyota-etios-liva-2

Under the hood, the Beat comes with a 1.0Litre XSDE SMARTECH diesel engine. It produces a maximum power of and a maximum torque of 150Nm@1750RPM. The Liva is powered by a 1.4Litre D4D CRDI Diesel engine, producing a maximum power of 67PS@3800RPM and a maximum torque of 170NM@1800-2400RPM. In overall performance, the Liva is better car to drive, with its more responsive engine and the reliability of the old and tested D4D engine. In terms of ride and handling, both cars are equally good but, the Liva with its longer wheel base has less body role and better control.

chevrolet-beat-rear

The Beat is priced from Rs. 3, 81,605 to Rs. 5, 86,751 (Ex. Showroom Delhi). Liva comes in the price range of Rs. 4, 09,998 to Rs. 6, 32,281. (Ex. Showroom Delhi).Being around the same price range, the verdict finally depends on the consumer. If he wants a modern hatch, which can seat 4 people and is a bit stylish, the Beat is the right choice. But, it he wants to seat 5 people comfortably and take longer journeys, not caring much about exterior looks, the Liva is the correct choice.

Toyota Corolla Altis versus Skoda Laura

Toyota Corolla Altis can be treated as contemporary to Skoda Laura but Skoda Laura holds the market for long. The new Corolla’s styling and mines is to a good extend with the idea from Camry model. It is bold and attractive. On the other hand Skoda Laura is as expected to be sophisticated to look at as one can expect from most of Skoda models. Both the cars have sedan model.

toyota-corolla-altis_thumb1

Skoda Laura is capable of pumping 140 Ps at 4000 rpm with 2.0 liter DOHC mill and a 320Nm tyre balding torque. But the Toyota Corolla Altis has the D-4D series engines which are most advanced in technology. In a very linear and absolutely flat torque curve produce 88.4 PS at 3800 rpm and 205 Nm of rotational force at 2800 rpm. Skoda Laura speeds to 100 Km/h in 11.44 seconds whereas Toyota Corolla Altis comes upto 100 Km/h in 14.55 seconds. In terms of top speed Skoda Laura is close to 200Km/h beating Altis by 30Km/h which runs a top speed of 170 Km/h. As far as fuel efficiency is concerned Skoda Laura provides 11Km/L in city and 14Km/L on highways. The mileage champion among tow is Corolla Altis which reaches upto 14.2 KM/L in town and on highway 24.3 Km/L.

Skoda-Laura-2

Toyota Corolla Altis greets with the surroundings that are familiar. The smart dash in grey-beige combo with fake wood inserts adding a touch of grandeur. Mesh grille is present in Diesel variant apart from the petrol variant. Corolla has pretty comfortable seats and adequate support to most driving styles can be observed. Skoda Laura is a spacious car with rear A/C vents which restricts the legroom for the passenger in the center. Steering wheel is devoid of audio controls which are present in the cars which costs half to Skoda Laura.

toyota-corolla-altis-12

Coming to handling and ride barely any difference can be seen in Toyota Corolla’s petrol and diesel variants. Suspensions are not sorted completely for Indian conditions; it is stiff while over bad sections of roads. However the Skoda Laura’s suspension is plain and brilliant, it gives delight while riding it. It is firm and nice, with a plus point of perfectly weighed steering. Quality ride can be felt while driving it although it does not has push start.

skoda-laura-full-rear-view-119

Both the cars differ as chalk and cheese, thus they will appeal to different people with different appeal. Altis offers good drivability, unrivalled efficiency, offering space, in short has everything well. Quality always comes at a price and these cars drives with a point further. Toyota Corolla Altis has a price tag staring from Rs.10, 95,000 lakh for the base variant and moves upto 13, 75,000 to top variant. Skoda Laura goes upto 18.97 lakh starting from 12.90 lakh with a variant fro petrol and diesel. Thus it is just a matter of one’s priority which makes the decision even simpler.

Toyota contemplating crossover on Etios platform

Toyota Motor Corporate abbreviated to TMC, which is a leading Japanese multinational automobile manufacturers. Toyota has fully fledged to a great multinational corporation from where it started and long-drawn-out to different worldwide markets and countries. Displacing GM it became the world's foremost automobile maker for the year 2008. It held the title of the, for the most part profitable automobile maker i.e.US$11 billion in the year 2006 in addition to escalating sales in, among other countries on the globe. According to the 2008 Fortune Global 500, Toyota is counted the fifth leading company in the world and was crowned second largest automobile producers across the globe in the year2010.

toyota-etios-concept_2

Toyota has introduced new technologies together with one of the first bulk-produced cross gasoline-electric vehicles. Toyota recently proclaimed the launch of the Etios and Etios Liva within the Brazilian market. Toyota's administrative ethics and business techniques are collectively known as the Toyota line of attack. The Bharat-specific Etios whole was a huge success in India once the sedan version was launched in Gregorian calendar month 2010, and later the Etios Liva hatchback in Gregorian calendar month 2011. Toyota Bharat even exported the Etios to Republic of South Africa. At this time the Etios whole is on its thanks to score some numbers in Brazil. However, Toyota believes that so as to perk up its position within the international automobile market, and to urge the sales figure high, the corporate must introduce the new product. Toyota is the ninth largest company in the world by proceeds. In July 2012 the company reported that it had manufactured its 200 millionth vehicle.

The most recent introduction to the Toyota line-up may be a compact crossover. Supported identical platform as that of the Etios, the crossover is calculated to own identical engine as well, however with some performance augmentations. A 1.5-litre gasoline engine and a 1.4-litre diesel square measure doubtless to power the Etios primarily based crossover. With Etios developed in particular for developing markets like Bharat, it's extremely beyond a shadow of a doubt that the Etios crossover can come back to Bharat.

Toyota has already commenced a viable study to determine the responses for a packed in SUV within the Indian markets. Compact SUVs are square measure consecutive massive factor and also the breathtaking response to the Renault Duster square measures testimony to one and the same. The Toyota crossovers range from the compact RAV4 and Matrix, to midsize Kluger or Highlander and Venza. The SUVs of Toyota manufacturers range from the mid-size 4Runner to full-size Land Cruiser. The other robust compact SUVs from Toyota include the FJ Cruise, Fortuner and Land Cruiser Prado. Toyota already has the frenzy compact SUV, the second generation Daihatsu Terios, however its unlikely they're going to bring it here because it will end up to be expensive. Therefore the Etios primarily based compact crossover is simply the requirement of the hour for the Japanese car manufacturers. Even Volkswagen is doing one thing similar with the event of Polo and up, first and foremost based crossover.

Toyota may venture into compact MUV segment

Recently it has been seen that Indian auto markets have been quite allured by the compact influence. Taking into consideration, the market prospective related to small utility vehicle and the existing players in this market such as Ertiga by Maruti Suzuki and Quanto as launched by Mahindra, Toyota may possibly come up with a bang in this segment giving the other MUVs a big competition.

The new attraction towards sedans and the most recent ones to SUV’s and MUV’s in the Indian Market is due to various reasons. There has been considerable increase in the diesel powered cars in the country. Therefore, these are most likely the reasons which have induced Toyota to enter in the compact utility segment as done by Maruti and Mahindra.

Toyota-Avanza-2012

As far as the credibility of this Japanese automaker, Toyota is concerned; Innova can be taken as the reliable proof of that. Hence, there have been reports related to the probable launch of Avanza as a smaller version of Innova in India by 2013 which will be a compact utility vehicle. The same has already been introduced in the South –East countries like Thailand and Malaysia already.

This forthcoming Toyota Avanza might possibly be packed with 1495 cc engine as that of Thailand model. The 1.5 litre petrol engine churns around 109 PS of highest power at the rate of 6000 RPM along with the maximum torque of 141 Nm at 4400 RPM and a five speed manual transmission. Equipped with the VVTi technology for less carbon emissions and a better fuel efficiency, it is also expected to give a mileage of around 15.8 kmpl and 11.2 kmpl on highway. This car also promises a sport, stunning and spacious interiors and exteriors. Apart from that it is also set with most of the modern safety measures such as Supplementary Restraint System (SRS) airbag, side bar protection and crash body safety. Basically the USP of this car is its fuel efficiency and unparalleled headroom and legroom giving excellent accommodation to the whole family.

Toyota-Avanza

Moving on to the issue of price, nothing has been properly notified yet. It has been speculated that Toyota Avanza might turn out to be around 20-25% cheaper than Toyota Innova. No wonder it has been called as ‘Mini Innova’ fondly. It is estimated that this smaller version of Innova would drawn in the Indian Buyers which will give good returns to the company. In the continuation, it has been decided by the company authorities that Bangalore will be the venture for its manufacturing plant, hence investing around Rs. 900 crore to expand it. Such an investment would perhaps be a positive step for the production of Innova and Etios adding up another 100000 units to its present capacity of 210000 cars yearly. Further, there are possibilities that this Company in India, might plan a setting up of a diesel engine manufacturing plant. But at the same time, this particular option has been put to halt, as there have been concerns about the tax imposition on the diesel powered cars and the frequently changing price of diesel fuel in India.

Toyota Etios Liva versus Maruti Suzuki WagonR

The Liva and the WagonR , both come for two different classes, one trying to aim for the crowd that prefers safety and comfort (The Liva) and the other for the people who require a fuel efficient and spacious way to travel (WagonR). When it comes to the looks, the Liva seems to have the edge, despite Maruti’s efforts to redesign the WagonR to more modern style. The Liva emanates a sporty look that the WagonR envies.

Toyota_Etios_Liva_ext_831275418

Under the hood the Liva is 1.2-Litre, 4 Cylinder engine capable of producing 80PS at 6000rpm. It follows and electronic fuel injection system and can produce a torque of 104Nm at 3100rpm. On the other hand, the WagonR seems to be the less powerful with 67PS at 6200rpm and with a maximum torque of 90Nm at 3500rpm. The difference of 13PS power is a vast one and also the rpm scale for the Liva is very less, thus making it ideal for Indian roads. The fuel efficiency of the Liva is around the 18.31 kmpl and that of the WagonR is around 18.9 kmpl. Thus in terms of the engine and engine efficiency, it seems that the Liva is better.

Maruti-WAGON R

The interiors of the Liva are much better than the WagonR, probably because it came out later. At the same time, Maruti never have been able to completely satisfy the customer’s need for plush interiors. The Liva has sporty interiors and also the centre cluster is innovative. The WagonR in turn, is more spacious and provides a nice long drive, especially with family. The AC vents of the Liva have been placed in an unconventional manner, with the central vents directly streamlining the flow towards the passengers behind. When it comes to the interior, the Liva reigns.

The Liva in terms of the convenience has electronic power steering, all door power windows, adjustable seat belts, keyless entry and a central locking system. The WagonR on the other hand lacks all of these features. It seems the WagonR is much more inconvenient as compared to the Liva.

Toyota_Etios_Liva_ext_522555085

In terms of the safety, both the cars have a ventilated disc brake in the front and a drum brake in the rear. Liva has anti fog headlights in the front and rear, whereas the WagonR has no such characteristic. The Liva also has an anti-theft alarm, rear window defogger and a seat belt warning.

maruti-wagon-r

The one point where the Maruti leads the Liva is in terms of service centers. The service and customer service provided for the WagonR is unparalleled. It is one of the biggest plus points for the WagonR. It has a wide range of spare parts that are easily available, and the official service centers will fix your car for cheap and in haste.

Toyota_Etios_Liva_sus_5795

In conclusion, I would like to state that the WagonR is for the person who needs to travel in spacious comfort and requires the extra room for family etc. The Liva is better option in most aspects and is placed almost in the same price category.

Toyota Etios Liva versus Nissan Micra

The court was prepared, the game set, and the opponents set. The two motor company rivals from Japan were planning to popularise their product, especially with the Indian Middle Class. Both the hatchbacks are somewhat small in size and provide a comfortable smooth journey.

The Nissan Micra has a 1.2-Litre, 3 Cylinder engine providing a maximum power of 76PS at 6000rpm. The engine displacement capacity is around 1198cc, and follows a MPFI fuel injection system. The Etios Liva on the other hand, is a 1.2L, 4 Cylinder engine providing a maximum power of 80PS at 6000rpm. The engine displacement of the Etios Liva is 1197cc, and it follows Electronic Fuel Injection System.

Toyota-Etios-Liva_ext_171082963

The Micra provides a mileage of around 18.06 kmpl whereas the Etios can provide a little better at around 18.31 kmpl. Another similarity amongst these two hatchbacks is the dimensions. The Micra is sized at 3780 x 1666 x 1530(mm) whereas the Liva is around 3775 x 1695 x 1510(mm). The fuel capacity of the Micra is around 41-Liters, the Etios can contain upto 45-Liters.

Nissan_Micra__5573

The turning radius of the Micra is around 4.65-Meters, and the Liva has a turning radius of around 4.8-Meters. Even though this may seem to be somewhat the same in value, the difference of the 1.5-Meters could make parking on a really crowded road much easier.

Toyota-Etios-Liva_int_825394323

On the exterior, the Micra have a rear window defogger that the Liva lacks. But Liva comes with wheel covers and tinted windows. Coming to the interiors, both the cars seem to have plush interiors. Typical of Toyota cars, it seems that the small conveniences of the drive have not been forgotten. The car comes with Power Windows in the front and rear. The trunk and the fuel lid of the Liva may be opened with a Remote Control. There are accessory power points inside the Liva, and the seat belts are adjustable in height. The Micra seems to lack all these features. The only thing it seems to have is the Electronic Multi-Tripmeter, which in turn the Liva does not have.

Nissan_Micra__1787

When the safety is of concern, the manufactures might like you to know that the Liva comes with a central locking system and keyless entry system. Also, the Liva has day and night rear view mirrors, and a door ajar warning system. The Liva however does not have driver airbags instead boasted by the Micra.
The entertainment system in the Liva is packed, with speakers in the front and rear of the car. Other than this, the Liva comes with navigational features, again lacked by the Micra.

toyota-etios-liva-front-low-wide-090

In conclusion, I will like to draw a line by saying that in terms of engine both cars seem to be at par. The Micra has a smaller turning radius, which will play to its advantage, especially in the cities. Other than this case, it’s mostly the Liva that leads. Priced at around Rs 469000 to Rs 491000; it provides various benefits in terms of comforts and luxuries. The Micra may be cheaper at around Rs 421000 but the difference in the price is justified by the lack of features.

Toyota Etios Liva versus Renault Pulse

In the heated segment of ‘hot hatches’ in India, The Etios Liva and the Renault Pulse provide a fresh rivalry. The rivalry between Toyota and Renault has come to India in the lower segment of cars. The Liva, the hatchback version of the Etios has a fresh look which makes it look bigger than the normal hatchbacks. The Pulse on the other hand looks a lot like the Micra but, the changed front end gives it a whole new dimension of aggression and dynamism. On first looks, it’s the Pulse that steals the limelight with its wide grill with the Renault logo in the middle. It has got all the perfect looks for a hot hatch and especially a Pulse with alloy wheels looks like a dirt racer.

 Toyota-Etios-Liva4

The Liva on the other hand has a softer and subtle look. Coming from the Etios, the Liva has more of a family car feeling to it than the Pulse with its straight lines and elegant curves. Going from the exterior to the interior, both the cars somewhat disappoint the consumer with the usage of cheap plastic and dull colours. The Pulse has too many circles everywhere and fells a bit impractical. The Liva also annoyingly does not live up to Toyota standards and the extensive use of plastic and dull colours don’t let it get away from the cheap tag.

Renault_Pulse_ext_5608

Under the hood, the Liva has a 1,364CC engine, producing a maximum power if 68PS and a maximum torque of 170 NM. The Liva takes 17.01 seconds to go from zero to a hundred kilometers an hour which is slow for hot hatches. The Pulse houses a larger 1,461CC engine, providing a maximum power of 64PS and a maximum torque of 160NM. Even though with less power, the Pulse is quicker to the hundred kilometer mark, completing it in 15.2 seconds which is way quicker than the Liva. Overall, it is the Pulse that has a better heart, which is more aggressive and responsive and makes the Pulse more fun to drive compared to its Japanese counterpart. Both the Pulse and the Liva feel a bit unstable a doing corners.

toyota-etios-liva-rear-cross-side-view-121

One more important aspect of a four-door hatch is the comfort of the rear passenger. The Liva is the clear winner in this department. With its longer wheel base, it provides greater leg room and comfort. It can also easily seat 3 people on the rear seat which is not so easy for passenger of the Pulse. The Pulse and the Liva are competitively priced between 6-7 lakh rupees. The former coming in 2 variant priced at Rs. 6.7 lakh and Rs. 7.26 lakh (Ex. Showroom Delhi) and the latter being priced at Rs 6.3 lakh and Rs. 6.57 lakh (Ex. Showroom Delhi).

Renault_Pulse_sus_6430

Overall, the Pulse if for the young user who wants more driving pleasure than the comfort of passengers and the Liva is for the young Indian family man who wants the reliability of Toyota at a good price.

Toyota Camry versus Volkswagen Passat

2012-Toyota-Camry

Toyota Camry coming from the house of Toyota is a benchmark in case of driving experience while Volkswagen Passat from the German car makers is a new entry level sedan in the luxury car segment. Toyota Camry is equipped with the 2494cc of DOHC petrol engine successfully churning out maximum power of 178.5 bhp and a top torque of233 Nm at 4100rpm. This nippy engine merely takes 7.8 seconds to sweep 0-100kmph on speedometer.

volkswagen-passat

On the contrary, the luxury symbol Volkswagen Passat has power mill equipped with a 1.8L, 1798cc petrol engine with four modern cylinders and an in-built six speed slick shift manual gearbox. This almighty engine of Passat is capable enough to churn out peak power of 160 PS at 4500-6200rpm and maximum torque of 250 Nm at 1500-4500 rpm. This powerful engine reaches 100 Kmph merely in 8.6 seconds with a topmost speed of 220 Kmph.

toyota-camry-int

Moving to the exterior and interior features, Toyota Camry is conferred with classy power steering wheel mounted with audio controls, awesome storage features, AUX-in supported music system, and electro-chromatic rear view mirrors which is simply amazing. The dynamic and vibrant exteriors just make one to fall in love with Camry. Fabulous chrome finished grille, sporty fog lamps, striking 16 inches, 10 spoke alloy wheels, elegant moon roof intelligent wipers etc. are listed among the main highlights of the sedan.

volkswagen-passat-dashboard-059

The VW Passat being the epitome of style and aura carries overwhelming interiors which are just irresistible. The elegant dashboard thigh support, ample legroom space, front seats with memory function electric and 12 way adjustments, loading facility in rear seats, ample legroom space, the leather covered 3 Spoke multi-functional power steering wheel are counted among the fascinating features. The wonderful combination of wooden trim and good-looking decor of the optimum quality gives a royal touch to the interiors and the vivid aluminum finish in inlay add to the royalty of the sedan. The Passat carries bold and aggressive exteriors which overwhelms the car buyers.

2012-Toyota-Camry-1

The prominent horizontal chrome strips in the grille, the angular headlamps accompanied with bi-Xenon projector units along with a cleaning system and a string of LEDs, front chrome grille engraved in it the striking logo of the company promising quality, circular rear lights giving a charismatic looks to Passat, etc. adds to the supremacy of the luxurious sedan.

Volkswagen-Passat-Price-in-India

Overall, Camry is winning the race, VW Passat being less preferred as Passat starts off with a more economical base. The Volkswagen Passat is a premium category Sedan Car but price factor is something which pushes it behind Camry in the race. The VW Passat offers brilliant performance and handling which results in unadulterated pleasure of driving. Though little less in looks which are taken over by Passat, Toyota Camry is still a brilliant car and less over-priced having a bright future. The Passat extra legroom will always be appreciated and cannot be ignored as far as one is planning to fill the rear seat.
